Social Innovation
Social Innovation is a key new element to the delivery of the structural funds. Social innovation is about new ideas that work to address pressing unmet needs. Innovations that are both social in their ends and in their means. Social innovations are new ideas (products, services and models) that simultaneously meet social needs (more effectively than alternatives) and create new social relationships or collaborations (Open Book of Social Innovation, Murray, Calulier-Grice and Mulgan, March 2010)

Nice use of graphics in Cornwall and the SI patrick….
I also like the way Cornwall and Liverpool bind together their activities in big themes…..
ps we tried a similar approach in the Humber….
Must have a look at your work……hope all is well
Some very interesting submissions – Cornwall is well worth a read! Thanks for pulling together.
Hi Pernille, Thanks and good to hear from you. I will take a look at Cornwall’s. This has been a collective approach through LinkedIn

[…] EUROPEAN STRATEGIES – STRUCTURAL FUNDS […]
An interesting and useful website. Thank you Patrick.
The elephant in the room is that if LEPs don’t have sufficient procurement and state aid law expertise, then they haven’t got a chance in hell of achieving their objectives.
Once LEPs realise this, there is going to be an almighty bun fight to secure staff who understand these areas of compliance.
Thanks. You can see there shortage of expertise in that many used external consultants to help write their strategies. I think some LEPs will let the local growth teams make the running – even if the LEPs have a pretence of fronting it and other will join together to bring in the necessary skills. I think this latter option is the only sensible way forward for many who want to try and fight of the centralising factors that will be in play. So as an example it would make sense for Greater Birmingham’s programme team to be shared with the Black Country’s. I think pragmatism will have to rule.the day. Patrick
