Inspirational Videos on City Planning and Transportation Approaches

I come across a lot of videos that really inspire me and give me confidence that we can positively change our urban environments and economies. I thought it would be good to collate them in one place – so here they are. I will add to this post over time.  Please let me know if there are others that have inspired you and I may include them here.

1) Shared Space approaches can cope with busy junctions

This video shows how a really busy junction, a village centre, can both become more environmentally friendly, safer and more economically productive whilst maintaining traffic flows. A real wow video! This junction has at peak 26,000 vehicles per hour.

This comes from the Sustrans website

2) Cycle Planning in the Netherlands

It is just the range of examples and the thorough approach to cycle planning that really impresses me here

3) Zurich TEDx talk by

  • Mikael Colville-Andersen on Liveable Cities: The importance of putting people first in cities

4) Julia King’s (Vice Chancellor of Aston University) talk on  how Transportation needs to change to meet our low carbon targets

5) Jeff Speck  A TEDX talk on the Walkable City; reasons of health well being and economics for developing walkable (and cyclable) cities
